Saint-Julien

Nestled between the renowned wine regions of Pauillac and Margaux, Saint-Julien is sometimes unjustly overshadowed due to its absence of a premier cru château in the 1855 Bordeaux classification. While Pauillac boasts three of the five Médoc premier crus and Margaux possesses one, Saint-Julien compensates by harboring 11 classified growths, responsible for three-quarters of the appellation's production. Among these, five stand out as highly esteemed second growths: Châteaux Léoville-Las Cases, Léoville Poyferré, Léoville Barton, Gruaud-Larose, and Ducru-Beaucaillou.

Interestingly, the first three were originally part of a single estate, a rarity for their time. Additionally, Saint-Julien boasts third growths such as Langoa-Barton and Lagrange, alongside châteaux Beychevelle, Branaire-Ducru, Talbot, and Saint-Pierre in the fourth growth category. While most collectors are likely familiar with these properties, Château Saint-Pierre stands out as relatively petite, with only 17 hectares (42 acres) of vineyards, producing wine under the unclassified Château Gloria label.
